Most car owners regularly change the oil in the engine, forgetting that the automatic transmission also requires a complete or partial oil change. We have been replacing ATF automatic boxes for many years, each of our technical centers has all the necessary equipment for hardware and manual replacement of the working fluid.

The lubricant composition loses its original properties over time. The main reason for this is the operation of the automatic transmission in harsh conditions, as a result of which the transmission oil overheats. The working fluid in an automatic transmission is necessary not only to lubricate the rubbing elements, but also to transmit torque from the engine to the transmission. During operation of this unit, the oil heats up to very high temperatures.

Differences between partial and complete oil change in automatic transmission

There are two methods by which automatic transmission oil is changed: partial and complete. With a partial oil change, a certain amount of the old hydraulic fluid that is in the sump is drained and replaced with the same amount of fresh oil. The obvious disadvantages of this replacement method include the fact that we get a mixture of dirty and clean oil in approximately 40/60 or 50/50 proportions, because with this method, the old oil remains in the torque converter. Also, if working fluids of different categories are mixed, they can “curl up”, which will lead to the inevitable repair of the automatic transmission.

A complete oil change (by substitution method) solves these problems. During this procedure, the old oil is replaced by the new one. For hardware oil changes, we use professional flushing equipment and special adapters for the best result. We can say with confidence that a complete replacement of transmission fluid for a box is better than a partial replacement, because. at least 98% of the oil changes in the automatic transmission, and the gearbox is completely cleaned of debris in the form of all kinds of deposits. In addition, a complete oil change in an automatic transmission is more profitable from an economic point of view, because a partial change has to be done more often.

Hardware (complete) oil change requires the use of professional equipment, as this is a more technologically complex procedure. This requires a special oil change apparatus, which is filled with liquid and connected directly to the gearbox. During such a replacement, the box is completely washed and filled with fresh oil, and all deposits and dirt are removed from it. Also during the procedure, the automatic transmission filter and pan gasket can be replaced.

What happens if you do not perform a complete oil change in the automatic transmission on time?

What happens if you do not change the oil on time:

the automatic transmission will start to malfunction;
transfers can be switched jerkily;
extraneous sounds will appear during transmission operation.

To avoid unpleasant consequences, it is recommended to change the oil after a run of 25-30 thousand kilometers.
